Stop the ‘hypocritical posture’ on Agric issues – NPP chairman tells Eric Opoku

New Patriotic Party(NPP) Chairman for the Ahafo region, Kwabena Owusu Sekyere has admonished the ranking member for the Cocoa Affairs committee in Parliament, Hon Eric Opoku to stop peddling falsehood about the agriculture sector.

In a release copied to Dinpafm.com, the Chairman stated that, it was sad to note the MP for Asunafo South has no good record to show in his constituency but continues to lambast the Akuffo Addo led government.

BELOW IS THE STATEMENT

I wish to brotherly advise Hon Eric Opoku to back down the hypocritical posturing he has taken with regards to the issues of Agriculture in this country.

Lately I have monitored and observed that he has unnecessarily been bashing the Nana Akufo Addo’s led Government on issues of Agriculture on both the floor of parliament and on the media landscape.

Hitherto President Akufo Addo coming into office on January 7 2019, the overall Agricultural growth rate was 2.9% under the NDC. But thanks to prudent economic management and Visionary leadership, the same grew at 6.1% in 2017 and is expected to grow at 6.9% in 2019.

The introduction of policies such as Planting for Food and Jobs, Rearing for Food and Jobs, One Village One Dam, Cocoa Hand Pollution, Cocoa Pruning and many others have accumulated to these higher growth figures.

Obviously, my brother Eric Opoku has never attempted to dispute these impeccable records.

As the saying goes ‘charity begins at home’.

The rules of natural justice make it only fair to have a clean hands if one wishes to call for equity.

For 12 years as Member of Parliament for Asunafo South and 8 years a Deputy Minister and Regional Minister for the the then Brong Ahafo Region, it is sad to note that Hon Eric Opoku has no records and achievements back home in the Asunafo South District.

Not even a single kilometre of Cocoa Road was constructed in the Asunafo South District during his reign, despite the District having about 8 National and about 7 regional best Cocoa farmers.

I dare him to challenge this if he has any of such records in the District and the region.

However, for him to spring up suddenly to be talking about Agricultural issues smacks of nothing but sheer Hypocrisy.

If these are the men the NDC will be relying on in the unlikely event that they come into power in some future, then it will not be surprising that they will run to the IMF for policy credibility.

Truly speaking, a good democracy is the one that allows opposition to criticise its policies but any criticism that does not offer alternatives should be treated empty noise and with the outmost contempt.

…..Signed……

Kwabena Owusu Sekyere

Regional Chairman, NPP

Ahafo.
