The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Grassroots Communications Director for the Asikaman block comprising Kade, Adaiso, Nsawom, and Asamankesi, Mr. Kwasi Amoani, has declared a strike among all grassroots communicators in the Eastern Region. The strike, he announced, will continue until their demands for recognition and fair compensation are met by the national leadership of the party.Mr. Amoani passionately explained the grievances of the grassroots communicators, citing their tireless efforts and hard work during the party’s campaigns that led to its ascent to power. Despite their pivotal role in the party’s success, he lamented that they have been consistently overlooked and undervalued by the party’s top brass. One of the primary issues highlighted by Mr. Amoani is the lack of acknowledgment and appreciation from the party leaders. He emphasized that grassroots communicators are the ones shedding light on the party’s work and achievements, yet they are often ignored and sidelined when it comes to recognition and rewards.Financial compensation was another crucial point raised by Mr. Amoani. He revealed that the monthly payment provided to grassroots communicators is a mere ₵200, which falls significantly short of their expenses. With communication costs reaching around ₵600 monthly, the current compensation is deemed insufficient and unsustainable by the grassroots communicators.During meetings and significant party occasions, Mr. Amoani noted with disappointment that grassroots communicators are rarely called upon or included, further exacerbating their sense of being undervalued and marginalized within the party structure.”We are working tirelessly for the benefit of others within the party. Where are the leaders when it comes to recognizing our contributions and addressing our needs?” Mr. Amoani passionately questioned, reflecting the frustration and disillusionment prevalent among grassroots communicators. The strike initiated by the grassroots communicators sends a strong message to the NPP leadership, highlighting the urgent need for reforms in how grassroots workers are treated and compensated. It remains to be seen how the party leaders will respond to these demands and whether it will lead to tangible changes in the communication dynamics within the party.
