The Agricultural Directorates within the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly, located in the Ahafo Region, have set an ambitious target of engaging 7,000 farmers in the upcoming phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.Mr. Atinbeok Danlaadi Paul, the Asunafo North Municipal Director of Agriculture, shared insights during an interview on the “Rejoice Akuafo Mmo” program.

He emphasized that the primary objectives of the Planting for Food and Jobs program are to bolster food security within Ghana while also generating surplus for export.The upcoming phase, Phase 2, will place a significant focus on cultivating various crops and commodities essential for domestic consumption and export markets. These include staples like maize, rice, sorghum, soybean, as well as vegetables such as tomato, pepper, onion, and cassava.

Additionally, the program will promote the cultivation of yam, plantain, and poultry, contributing to a diverse and sustainable agricultural landscape.Mr. Paul outlined the prerequisites for farmers interested in participating in the program, emphasizing the need for access to land, possession of a Ghana card, and an active phone number for registration.

He assured farmers that the government would provide necessary support, including crops, fertilizers, and other essential resources.To facilitate registration and dissemination of information, the Asunafo North Municipal Agriculture Directorate has established a dedicated website, www.ghapp.com. Interested individuals can also visit their office for further details and assistance.While highlighting the benefits of the program, Mr. Paul issued a cautionary note, advising farmers to remain vigilant against scammers, as the registration process is entirely free.

He disclosed that approximately 200 farmers have already registered in the Asunafo North Municipal, showcasing early enthusiasm and engagement.In a bid to expand participation, Mr. Paul urged traditional leaders to collaborate by facilitating access to land for interested individuals, thereby ensuring broader community involvement and success of the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.
