Military Barracks Commissioned at Sankore to Enhance Peace and Security

A new military barracks was commissioned at Sankore in the Asunafo South Municipality of the Ahafo Region on Friday, November 29, 2024. The facility, funded by Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, aims to promote peace in the constituency and mitigate violence during the upcoming elections.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. George Yaw Boakye, emphasized the importance of the barracks in maintaining peace and security in the Ahafo Region.
Mr. Alex Kofi Annin, General Manager of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, explained that their operations in Sankore necessitate enhanced security, which motivated their support for the project.
Nana Ogyedom Paabo Katakyie Appiah Kubi, the Omanhene of the Sankore Traditional Council, expressed gratitude to Newmont Ghana Gold Limited and all stakeholders involved. He highlighted Sankore’s history as an election hotspot and noted that the presence of the military barracks would foster peace in the area.
He also urged the people, especially the youth, to exhibit good behavior and avoid violence in the upcoming elections.
