Passengers traveling from Mim to Kasapin in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region have raised concerns about unauthorized fare charges by drivers, leading to clashes between the two parties.According to the passengers, the fare for the route was initially set at 18 cedis, but drivers increased it to 20 cedis even before any official fare increment was announced.

Furthermore, they claim that the fare was raised again to 23 cedis without prior notice or justification.Adding to their grievances, passengers also highlighted issues of overloading in vehicles, which they argue adds to their stress during the journey.

Despite these challenges, drivers continue to charge 23 cedis for the Mim-Kasapin route. In response to these allegations, some drivers defended their actions, stating that the prescribed fare for the route is indeed 23 cedis.

They emphasized that this fare reflects the current state of operations, including recent warnings from the GPRTU to stop overloading vehicles. The GPRTU Mim executives shed light on the situation, explaining that fare adjustments were made due to overloading concerns. They clarified that while trotros charge 20 cedis, taxis charge 23 cedis for the route.

The reduction in fare was initially intended to address overloading issues, but the GPRTU’s directive to cease overloading has led drivers to charge the prescribed fare.
