The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has conducted an inspection of its projects in Goaso, the Ahafo Regional Capital, on June 4, 2024. PIAC, a statutory body established under Section 51 of the Petroleum Revenue Management Act, oversees the management and use of Ghana’s petroleum revenue to ensure transparency and accountability.

The inspection covered several key projects funded by petroleum revenue, including the construction of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) headquarters, the Police headquarters and staff bungalows, the completion of the Regional Agricultural Office, and the construction of senior staff bungalows.

Nana Kwaku Dei, Chairman of the Public Affairs Committee of PIAC and a representative of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), highlighted the committee’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of oil revenue reach the people. “Our aim is to ensure that the revenue is used for the right purposes, benefiting the citizens,” he stated.

Nana Kwaku Dei expressed satisfaction with the progress of the RCC office construction, commending the contractor for their work. However, he was less impressed with the progress of the Police Regional Headquarters and bungalows, constructed by A4 Construction.

He mentioned the possibility of terminating the contract and reassigning it to a more efficient contractor if improvements are not seen promptly. He also urged the media to play a crucial role in advocating for the proper use of petroleum revenue for essential government projects.

Harry Kwabena Oti Akenteng, Project Manager for A4 Construction, provided an update on the police headquarters and bungalows.

He reported that the bungalows, comprising a three-storey building with 12 apartment units, are in the finishing stages and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
