Residents of Mim Airport, located in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region, have voiced their distress over the hazardous conditions posed by a deteriorating gutter in their area. The primary concern revolves around the accumulation of rubbish in the gutter, leading not only to unsightly surroundings but also creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

This has significantly impacted the health and well-being of the residents, as mosquito-borne diseases become a heightened threat. Moreover, the deteriorating state of the bridge over the gutter has added to the residents’ anxieties, with many labeling it a “death trap.” The widening of the gutter has raised fears of potential collapses, especially posing risks to nearby houses and structures.

Hon. Sandy Amankwah, the Assembly member for the Airport Quarters electoral area, acknowledged the gravity of the situation. He pointed out that the absence of an presiding member has hindered swift action from the assembly to address the residents’ needs comprehensively.

To tackle the issue head-on, Hon. Amankwah emphasized the formation of a task force to monitor and penalize individuals found dumping refuse into the gutter. This measure aims to discourage irresponsible waste disposal practices and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the environment.

In light of these concerns, residents are calling for urgent interventions to rehabilitate the gutter and bridge, ensuring the safety and health of the community. They appeal to the relevant authorities to prioritize this pressing issue and work collaboratively towards a sustainable solution.
