THEY THREATENED TO PUT ME IN JAIL FOR 15 YEARS IF I DON’T PAY GHC20,000!; GHANA POLICE SERVICE RELEASE A STATEMENT

The allegation was leveled against some officers of the Ghana Police Service earlier this year of corrupt police officers planting drugs into innocent individuals’ cars to extort money from them. How come is the agency protecting law-abiding citizens now blackmailing them for money?
One Dr. Yaw Patrick Asiedu, a medical doctor that claimed he has been framed by some police officers of the Ghana Police Service Department on the road from his workplace to his house narrated how these corrupt officers wearing police uniforms stopped his car for a search ended up blackmailing him with drugs they (the police officers) planted under his car seat to extort money from.

According to Mr. Patrick, these four officers threatened to make him spend 15 years in prison if he doesn’t pay them GHC20,000. Such allegations have been leveled against some officers of the Ghana Police Service severally in recent times, what seems like a new strategy of corrupt security officials to extort money from their victims, has been gaining a lot of attention and concerns from the public, media and other stakeholders in the security department.

However, a press release by the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, January 18th after it investigates the allegation leveled against some officers of their organization, the security service agency says it’s yet to receive an official complaint after their initial checks at East Legon and Accra central police stations indicated no such complaint has been filed there as Mr. Patrick mentioned in the audio. According to the police service, they also reached out to the Narcotics Control Commission and Ghana Armed Forces but both institutions have indicated no knowledge of such an incident as indicated in the audio.
