Tomato Traders Protest Reduction of Wooden Crates Amid Price Hike

Tomato traders in Accra central have taken to the streets to protest against farmers who have reduced the size of wooden crates used for boxing tomatoes, despite a recent hike in prices.
The traders argue that this change is severely impacting their businesses. The traders claim that the price for a box of tomatoes has increased significantly, but the crates provided by the farmers have been made smaller.
This means they are receiving fewer tomatoes for a higher price, which they argue is unfair and unsustainable for their operations.”We are already dealing with the challenges of increased prices,” said one trader.
“Now, with the crates being smaller, it’s like we’re being hit twice. This is affecting our ability to make a profit and provide for our families.”
The traders are demanding that the farmers revert to the original crate sizes or adjust the prices to reflect the reduced quantity of tomatoes in each crate. They have called on relevant authorities to intervene and mediate a fair resolution to the issue.
