NDC Majority Will Stand for the People of Ghana–Ato Forson Reacts to Speaker Bagbin’s Ruling

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a significant step towards assuming greater leadership in Ghana’s Parliament. This development follows the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin’s ruling, which declared four parliamentary seats vacant. The ruling shifts the balance of power in the legislature, making the opposition NDC the new majority. In his reaction, the Minority Leader, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, expressed his commitment on behalf of the NDC majority to stand for the people of Ghana.
He acknowledged the frustrations and hardships that many Ghanaians have been enduring, stating that these challenges can be partly attributed to the previous minority status of the NDC in Parliament. Forson explained that, as a minority, they lacked the numerical strength to fully influence policy decisions or mitigate the hardships.
Now, with the NDC holding the majority, Forson believes they have a stronger mandate to act in the interests of the public. He stated, “The people of Ghana have often blamed Parliament for not standing for them during these difficult times.
But we were the minority, and we did not have a working majority to make the changes the people demanded.”Ato Forson emphasized that the NDC majority would begin a “reset” for the country, indicating plans to take legislative action aimed at addressing the nation’s pressing concerns.
He also announced that on Tuesday, the NDC would hold an election to choose a new Majority Second Speaker, signaling the start of what could be a transformative period in Ghana’s parliamentary leadership and governance.
