FDA Warns Against Promotional Food Purchases During Christmas
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a warning to the general public to exercise caution when purchasing food items on promotion during the Christmas season.
Speaking on Rejoice Amansan Ntie Morning Show, Francisca Patoah Gyarko, the Principal Regulatory Officer for the FDA in Sunyani, explained that promotional sales are often influenced by two main factors: either the products are new on the market or they are nearing their expiry dates.
She emphasized the importance of checking expiry dates before purchasing any food item to avoid potential health risks. She also cautioned against the temptation to buy large quantities of products that are close to expiration, urging consumers to only purchase what they can consume within a safe timeframe.
“Promotions are not always bad, but we need to ensure that we are not compromising our health. Always check the expiry dates and avoid buying items in bulk if they are about to expire,” she advised.
