IT’S A FALSE STATISTIC, HIV CASES RECORDED IN AHAFO MIM ARE NOT EVEN UP TO 200!; DISEASE CONTROL OFFICER IN MIM MUSLIM HOSPITAL

“The new HIV case in Mim zone is very worrisome. 1000 new cases, 89% is the youth from 13 years to 25 years. Very alarming. Try to advise yourself and your family members.”
One Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng made circulation of the quoted information on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. Something that started as a grapevine has become a cause of great concern for all members of the community and the newly promoted region.
When he was asked where he got the information from?
He said, “from those in charge of our health in Mim zone, they came to my church today with the statistics and they make that claims, that one young girl in town who is pregnant came and tested positive when they did the follow-up, it was an old man who is aware of his status who gave it to her but not her alone but other girls in town.”
Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng on a voice note also added that Kenyasiand Hwidiem is leading the chart on HIV cases recorded in Ahafo per the statistics from the said health officials that came through his church ‘MIM PENTECOST CENTRAL’ one Sunday to create awareness.
Rejoice media team made an effort and reached out to the Disease control officer in charge of the Mim community, Mr. Maxwell Kpen (Control) at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Hospital for further breakdowns and details.
According to Mr. Maxwell, the said circulation is false and the public should treat the communique as false and of no facts!
“It’s good my boss from the directorate is here, find out for me the person that has been spreading that information, that is false, even the cases we have recorded in Mim are not up to 200, and this number even includes those we have registered here in Mim that came from Acherensua, Kenyasi, Hwidiem, Kasapin, Goaso, and other places”.
Mr. Maxwell added that even the recorded cases do not belong to the age group circulated in the fake reportage. According to him, young folks between that age group doesn’t even come for HIV test, it’s always the older folks. He promised they are going to get to the root of the person(s) behind this misleading information and take them on.
Rejoice media team quickly reached out to Mr. Kwaku Kwartengagain and asked him about the exact health officials that were in his church creating such awareness and where they said they were from. Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng replied to our respondent; “they were from Mim Health center, the clinic behind the Ghana Commercial Bank, go there for the statistics”
Mr. Kwarteng was not able to mention the exact name of the health official , we reached out to Mr. George, the Disease Control officer of the aforementioned health center for an interview which he responded to the circulated news to be false, and fake and urge the public to treat it likewise. According to Mr. George, him being the disease control officer of the health center has not yet embarked on any awareness campaign and is not aware of such a campaign in the community. He added that there is only one health facility in Mim that has the facilities and equipment to test for HIV and it’s the Ahmadiyya Muslim Hospital.
Mr. Maxwell Kpen however promised the rejoice media team to release the correct and satisfactory statistics to the media.
