“The new HIV case in Mim zone is very worrisome. 1000 new cases, 89% is the youth from 13 years to 25 years. Very alarming. Try to advise yourself and your family members.”

One Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng made circulation of the quoted information on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. Something that started as a grapevine has become a cause of great concern for all members of the community and the newly promoted region.

When he was asked where he got the information from?

He said, “from those in charge of our health in Mim zone, they came to my church today with the statistics and they make that claims, that one young girl in town who is pregnant came and tested positive when they did the follow-up, it was an old man who is aware of his status who gave it to her but not her alone but other girls in town.”

“It’s good my boss from the directorate is here, find out for me the person that has been spreading that information, that is false, even the cases we have recorded in Mim are not up to 200, and this number even includes those we have registered here in Mim that came from Acherensua, Kenyasi, Hwidiem, Kasapin, Goaso, and other places”.

According to him, young folks between that age group doesn’t even come for HIV test, it’s always the older folks. According to Mr. George, him being the disease control officer of the health center has not yet embarked on any awareness campaign and is not aware of such a campaign in the community. He added that there is only one health facility in Mim that has the facilities and equipment to test for HIV and it’s the Ahmadiyya Muslim Hospital.
