In a bid to ensure peace and order during tomorrow’s parliamentary sitting, the Majority Leader, Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin, has assured the public that no member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will encourage any form of conflict in the house.

This statement comes amidst growing tension following the Supreme Court’s ruling that overturned the Speaker’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.

Hon. Markin, speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, addressed concerns over the potential for unrest, particularly regarding the ongoing leadership dispute between the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He stated that if Minority Leader, Hon. Ato Forson, decides to claim his position as Majority Leader during tomorrow’s session, he is prepared to step aside in order to maintain peace and avoid any disruptions.

The Majority Leader also commented on the Speaker’s decision to declare the four seats vacant, noting that despite the ruling, he still acknowledges him as the Majority Leader. “When the Speaker declared the seats vacant, we didn’t take it lightly. We went to court. The Speaker knew what he was doing, and we respect the process,” Hon. Markin said. He further emphasized that the NPP’s approach has been through legal avenues rather than confrontation, describing the situation as “brain work” and not a matter of physical confrontation.
