The National Council of Traditional Priests and Priestesses has announced their decision to abstain from voting in the upcoming 2024 general elections, expressing feelings of exclusion and disrespect from the government.

In an interview with Kumasi Angel FM, Nana Yaw Owusu, the council’s secretary, emphasized that despite the presence of three major religions in Ghana—Christianity, Islam, and Traditional beliefs—traditionalists have been sidelined in governance and representation.

Nana Owusu highlighted the lack of traditional representation in key areas such as the Peace Council and education, asserting that traditional beliefs and practitioners are not taken seriously by authorities.

As a form of protest, the council plans to organize demonstrations against those who undermine traditional practices and to call out individuals falsely claiming to be traditional priests or priestesses.
