The Asutifi South District Assembly in the Ahafo Region of Ghana is implementing a new strategy to improve its Internal Generated Funds (IGF). Robert Dwomoh Mensah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi South, announced during a recent general assembly meeting in Hwidiem that the assembly would utilize legal measures to address the issue of poor tax compliance in the district.Mensah highlighted that many residents who are obligated to pay taxes to the assembly for development purposes have not been fulfilling their responsibilities. This non-compliance has hindered the assembly’s ability to collect the necessary funds for crucial development projects. To tackle this challenge, the District Assembly has decided to take legal action against tax defaulters by sending them to court. This initiative is aimed at not only recovering the outstanding taxes but also serving as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar practices. In addition to legal action, the District Assembly has ramped up its efforts to educate residents about the importance of tax compliance. They have utilized various platforms such as radio stations and information centers to disseminate information and raise awareness about the significance of contributing to the development of the district through tax payments.Hon.Mensah emphasized that these proactive measures are crucial for the assembly to secure the expected funds for development projects. By combining legal action against defaulters with robust education campaigns, the Asutifi South District Assembly is striving to enhance its revenue generation and foster sustainable development in the region.
